In the middle of Segovia, Spain is this aqueduct. It is seven stories tall, was made in the 1st Century of the Common Era, and somehow has survived remarkably intact.
I am still in awe of the city of Segovia just looking at the photos. This set does not even include the castle (which was one of the inspirations for Walt Disney when he was making the castles for Disneyland), the cathedral etc.
It is in the middle of a city and people just live their regular lives around it.
The engineering is amazing, these stones have been in place for centuries, and until very recently water flowed through the aqueduct. Of course it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This photo is not of the aqueduct, that is behind me. Everyday life just goes on, even when you live near one such an amazing feat of design and construction. Is there anything today we build that will last this long?
